Guppy...

So, I'm continually asked why people call me "Guppy." I figure, rather than explaining the story a thousand times, I'd just stick it on here for all my millions of readers. (You know, I HAVE hit the 5,000 mark on my counter... though 3/4 of them are just ME checking to see if anyone has left me comments, hint hint hint!:) ) Oh, yes, back to the real post ~

So, when I was a baby, I guess I made fish lips when I nursed. That's it. Done. There's no mystery. I'm called "Guppy" 'cause I made funny lips when I breastfed. I'll forever be linked to my mom's... well, you get the idea.

Growing up, ALL my teachers in my little town of Melba, ID called me "Guppy." My grade school teachers, jr. high teachers, high school teachers, coaches, bishop, that was JUST what I was known by! In fact, when my niece, Havelah, was... like... 17, she told me she had NO IDEA who Aunt Koriann even was until someone else explained it to her one day. She only knew me as Guppy. Ha, too funny, you gullible little lady.

So, those of you who already call me "Guppy", thanks. That means you know me well & aren't shy to say it. You are my true friends. It's funny, but the men are always the ones who say it... like it's a funny way to tease me. Women are MUCH more careful, which is weird 'cause I have a ton of you out there that I adore. You are just chickens. Scaredy cats. Big ol' freakin' weirdos. Oh, wait. I got carried away.

The babbling is over. I'm an old lady (35 years old for a few more days) who is called by the name of a fish. Oh well. It could be worse. At least it isn't "Tootie"!!! :)

I guess there is more advantages of breastfeeding then the books originally thought. You get a nick name for the rest of your life. That's too funny. I've heard you be called guppy a few times and sometimes even wondered why, but didn't dare to ask. Thanks for the update, now we know.

Well, that was fun to hear where it came from! But now you need to find something else to keep you a little mysterious....

Lol that is funny! It is weird to think that some people actually call Koriann. . . Is that how you spell it? I just can't imagine calling you that. It will always be Guppy for me. :) Love Mindy

Oh My Gosh! I forgot all about tootie! Now I remember. And I am pretty sure I remember who that was. You were all such little cuties. And I liked how you had cute little nick names.

It's funny how they can stick. My son Travis is also known as "Boy" or "Pork Chop" We called him those names since he was a baby. We mostly call him Boy now. He is a huge 15 year old that is the size of a grown man now. I will probably call him Boy even when he is 50 and I am 77. My daughter Kayla is also known as "Bob". I know it is odd since she is a girl. But she was called Kalyabob when she was a baby and it stuck. Her school friends even call her that. People look at me strange if they don't know about her name and they see me call her Bob.

Guppy, you may be Grandma Guppy one day. That will be cute.

Seriously, sometimes I try to forget about things that made me embarrassed, but lo and behold, the blogging world is there for all to see...My name didn't stick, so it must've stopped somewhere along the way! No wonder I am not a fan of gasly outbursts of any kind! Though, I think Emily got this trait passed on to her..sorry Em, its Guppy's fault! :)))))

Sometimes when me and Maddie are talking about relatives at school and your name comes up, some people are like "What? You have an aunt named GUPPY?!" HaHA! Well Guppy fits you good anyway! I think it is cute and spunky! OH, and I think I knew your name "Guppy" was just a nick name, but when I found out that Tony's real name was Anthony I couldn't believe it! LOL!

Guppy! You wonderful lovely YOUNG woman! Do you know how completely glad I am that you started your blog and we have become friends! I don't know your email so I have to put this here. But I wanted you to know what a sweet thing it was that you did for me and how ticked and happy it made me! What a nice surprise! I love you!!!

Your cousin, Sondra xoxoxo

BTW I tried to vote on the poll but I'm not sure if it worked. I never noticed your shirt being up at all.

Katrina, I read your comment. I think "boy" is much bigger than the size of most grown men! He's a tall handsome guy! I remember when he was born he was seriously almost 10 pounds and Katrina is a petite thing! But he's also so soft hearted and sweet.

OK I just read the first comment that I left. I meant to say TICKLED and happy, not ticked! What a dork I am! Thank you!!

You are so talented and thoughtful!

That's kind of funny, because everyone on my mom's side of our family calls her Teenie. Of course, that's because she was always such a tiny little kid. When you said you were called Guppy, it made me think of that!

Guppy, oh, it's because of your nursing abilities? I thought it was because you were such an excellent swimmer, you know, like a guppy, I also thought it had to do with the way you treat your kids, you know, guppies eat their new babies...
Okay, I'll shut up, but it was fun hanging with you last weekend! Love your buns!

Karmen said...

Oh, and I'm glad that Sondra was "tickled" and not "ticked" about your gift!

What a fun post, Guppy Sue! It is fun to remember all these fun origins of the nicknames. I hope you had a happy birthday--it's fun to see about it on Karmen's blog! Sorry I'm lame and missed it all. I love you so!
